Interview with Mrs Dorota Czajak

Students: Mikołaj, Wiktor, Michał and Beata

Mikołaj: What is your job?

Mrs Dorota: I'm a photographer

Mikołaj: Where do you work?

Mrs Dorota: I work in a professional photographic shop as a sales assistant.

Mikołaj: What school did you finish?

Mrs Dorota: I studied something completely different from what I do now – I finished pedagogics at University of Rzeszów.

Mikołaj: Why did you choose this job?

Mrs Dorota: I chose this job because photography has been my passion for many years. I love taking pictures, talking about them and testing new cameras.

Michał: What are your duties?

Mrs Dorota: My main duty at work is selling cameras, lenses and other photographic equipment. Not everyone knows what exactly they wants to buy so I often advise people which camera would be the best for them. I also print people's pictures and take ID or passport photos.

Michał: Is your job difficult?

Mrs Dorota: Well, I wouldn't say my job is difficult. But I need to know all differences between the cameras and all news in photographic world. And it's the difficult part of my job because sometimes it's really hard to remember all details. The other difficult thing is to deal with customers who are angry because their camera has broken down or they are unhappy with the quality of their pictures. It's hard to talk to people who “know better” and don't want to listen to what you're trying to explain.

Michał: What is interesting in your job?

Mrs Dorota: The interesting part of my job is that I can try out every new camera that comes to our shop and every day I learn something new because technology goes forward. A few times a year the main photographic companies organize workshops for us and meetings with the best Polish photographers and it's very valuable for me. I enjoy also meeting people who come to the shop to buy a camera or just to talk about photography.

Wiktor: What is boring in your job?

Mrs Dorota: There is a lot of paper work when you work at a shop like this. Every day I have to do many reports, fill different forms and do some statistics. It's very necessary but sometimes it's also really boring.

Wiktor: What people do you meet in your job?

Mrs Dorota: Every day I meet many people who love photography and who have different experiences with it. Some of them take wedding photos, some of them prefer macro-photography, some of them take photos of children or animals and that's why I can learn a lot from each person by talking to them.

Wiktor: Who is your boss?

Mrs Dorota: The shop where I work is just one of 64 shops of a big company so I don't really know the main boss.

Wiktor: Do you sometimes visit other countries?

Mrs Dorota: I do, I love traveling. I've been to most of European countries and I already have “a journey of my life” because I've spent 6 months in South America, traveling from the south to the north of the continent.

Beata: What languages do you speak?

Mrs Dorota: I can speak English and a little bit of Spanish and I used to speak a bit of French as well.

Beata: What is your hobby?

Mrs Dorota: Apart from being a photographer and traveling my hobby is reading books and visiting new places. I like sports as well. Recently I'm fascinated with horses and I learn horse riding but I also like riding a bike and swimming. In winter I do ice-skating or snowboarding and in summer I hike quite a lot because I love mountains as well.

Beata: What are your dreams?

Mrs Dorota: My dream is to go one day on another “journey of my life”, visit another continent, discover new places and meet new people :)

Beata: Are you happy with what you do?

Mrs Dorota: Yes, I am because my job is my  hobby and after work I spend my time with my other hobbies. And simply it means that my life is my hobby ;)
